             Adolescence involves the most important developmental stages of a person's life. Alcoholism within a family can cause major problems to this time in a child's life. Due to alcohol addiction in a household, a child suffers in ways more than one. According to the website Psych Central, "More than 28 million Americans have seen at least one parent suffer alcohol's serious adverse effects, leading to serious family problems. More than 78 million Americans, or 43 percent of the adult population, have been exposed to alcoholism in the family, according to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency" (MD, 2006). Growing up in a family where one or both of the parents are alcoholic has been proven to have negative effects and damage on the child all the way through adulthood. Many children living in a home with alcoholism become responsible for running the family, taking care of their siblings and even parents. Many of these kids live in fear of their parents. Also, feelings of guilt often take over because of their inability to save their parents.
