ants and humans

             Have you ever stepped on an ant hill, destroying it? Most everyone has, either on accident or on purpose. Have you ever stayed after the destruction to watch the ant's reaction? I am sure some people have. What you would see if you were to stay is the undeterred desire of the ant to protect, save, and rebuild their society. They have this desire in spite of the inevitable demise of their colony.
             Humans also have the desire to protect, save, and rebuild their society if needed. We do this too, with the knowledge of the inevitable end of the universe and our existence in it.
             Most do not know that ants, like humans are highly social. Anyone who has had the benefit of owning an ant farm will know this. They work in a highly structured society where everyone has a place and does their job.
             If an ant hill is destructed, only moments later you will see the ants rebuilding their colony. As a group, an ant colony can perform tasks of surprising complexity. Some scientists at the Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute, are trying to create robots that are able to exhibit teamwork. They research and study ants and their habits of teamwork. They even have computers record and analyze the ants to identify each ant's role within the colony. The computer will also point out rules of behavior and how the ants communicate. They are desperate to duplicate this in a working robot.
             Some consider the organization and structure is something to admire, even envy in ants. Humans can't even begin to compare to ants in that aspect. The ants seem to work without being told and are unquestioning. One could easily classify them as drones.
             When looking at humans, it is easy to see that most are creatures of habit. This is another thing we share with the ants. However, a growing number of people are starting to share a negative ant characteristic. So many of us go along like drones, unquestioning
