Teaching Creationism and Evolution

             "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.
             And the evening and the morning were the first day." (The Holy Bible 1)
             There is nothing wrong with believing in these words and the religion behind them, but it does not belong in public schools. Public schools should not be allowed to teach creationism alongside evolution as part of the science curriculum for a plethora of reasons. First, because of the constitution and the separation of church and state; secondly, because of the Christian church and how it is a better source of information than the school; and lastly, how perhaps school should be a total education, but how creationism has no place in the science classroom because it is not science.
             One reason creationism should not be taught in public schools is because of the constitution and the separation of church and state. In the words of the constitution expressed by our founding fathers, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" (The Constitution of the United States of America 23). In other words, either as individual states or a nation as a whole, The United States can't endorse a religion, or discriminate against a religion. For example, in the 1987 Supreme Court case of Edwards v. Aguillard, where a group of Louisianans challenged the state's "Creationism Act." The act forbids the teaching evolution in public schools unless creationism was also being taught. (Edwards V. Aguillard1 2).
