             The trip is described using metaphorical descriptions and is told in the third person. Eudora Welty gives the reader insight about the long trip that Phoenix has to take in order to get medicine for her sick grandson. This story shows us many descriptions about the obstacles that Phoenix has to endure throughout the journey. The author gives us great insight, describing the age of Phoenix, and the obstacles she had to endure because of her age. Also, the comparisons of slavery she uses along the journey.
             4. This question flows from #3. How are the images used in the description of the natural world through which Phoenix passes?
             "Out of my way, all you foxes, owls, beetles, jack rabbits, coons and wild animals!... Keep out from under these feet, little bobwhites... Keep the big wild hogs out of my path. Don't let none of those come running my direction." This gives us a description of the forest that Phoenix goes through.
             "Up through pines," she said at length. "Now down through oaks." This gives us a description of the trees in the forest and the great effort that Phoenix needs to make the journey because of her age.
             "It was not possible to allow the dress to tear. I in the thorny bush". This is just another image of the natural world that Phoenix has to pass through in describing the bushes in the forest, but it could also be symbolic of the torture of the blacks during the time of slavery.
             Eudora Welty has given many metaphorical descriptions throughout the story. Overall, the images are used to describe Phoenix in regard to her age, and to images of slavery that happened during this time period.
