             During Post-Revolutionary War era, many Americans viewed slavery as evil. This came at a time when many Whites also suffered slavery as indentured servants forced to work off their debts and also many criminal who were sent to the free America were held on convict contracts (Lovett, 2011). The institution of slaver was categorized by Gouverneur Morris a delegate from Pennsylvania, as "the curse of heaven on the States, where it prevailed" (Lovett, p. 2).This attitude amongst many northern religious leaders was the catalyst for the antislavery movement in the South. In 1790, the Quakers along with other antislavery organizations began a push to end this peculiar yet violet institution in America.
