Bob Brown Book review

potential propaganda- in Brown's case Green propaganda- but this is, I feel, expected given the pending election. Further more Brown confesses to taking any opportunity to getting his case heard. To which I applaud.
             The following is a chapter by chapter critic of 'Memo for a Saner World'.
             Brown begins by expressing the Greens motives and aims within Australia. He draws a picture of bettering Australians 'social equality and democracy with environmental protection' as the Greens' 'main stay' on their 'footbridge to a better future'
             He makes reference to his stance on refugees, and dams Howard's actions in 2001 regarding his ordering of the some 400 refugees on the Norwegian freighter, to stay out of Australian waters. Brown then goes on to mention the press conference he called- stating that this action was against human rights and that the refugees should be brought to Australia and treated in accordance with the law- and the 'abusive mail, including bullets and pictures of nooses' that soon followed.
             He states that 'this book is not a comprehensive text on Greens politics. It consists of stories from along the road I have taken.' From campaigner... to Greens senator, with discussion of some issues on the way' (Brown pg. 3)
             Brown finishes the introduction with an interesting statement which must be included-
             The Greens are the world's political antidepressant. I hope this memo for a saner world will strike a chord with you too.
             'The Earth is the cradle of our existence'
             Like many before him, his damming analysis of Western culture and the ends its willing to go to to destroy the Earths environment is the theme of this chapter. Materialism, money and consumerism's short-sightedness in modern society, Brown believes, are leading us to destruction. He calls for a 'fast-foreward to a state of reason...
