             Ex Sweet Mouth COMPARISON OF HANNIBAL TO GENGHIS KHAN OBJECTIVE: The objective of this presentation is to compare two famous military characters, Hannibal and Genghis Khan and then draw a conclusion as to who is better. AIM: The aim of this presentation is to decide if Hannibal is better than Genghis Khan LIMITATIONS: For the purpose of this paper, I will look at the two characters separately, Hannibal then Genghis Khan. I will then compare these two great personalities and then attempt a decision as to who is the better of the two. Throughout this presentation emphasis will be placed on, and thus the deciding factor will be, the military careers of these two great personalities. HANNIBAL 247-183 BC CARTHAGINIAN GENERAL Synopsis: Hannibal's leading the Carthaginian army across the Alps stands as one of the most monumental feats in ancient military history. Often called the 'father of military strategy' for his visionary conduct of warfare, Hannibal was able to sustain a 15-yr campaign against Rome because of his innovative cavalry tactics. Background: Hannibal was born in 247 BC in Carthage and studied under his father Hamilcar Barca. During the first Punic war 264-241 BC, he accompanied his father to Spain to fight against the Romans. This campaign was unsuccessful and he swore to his father to dedicate his life to fighting against the Roman Empire. Military Career: In 221 BC, Hannibal assumed control of the Carthaginian forces and within 2 years had conquered Spain. The Romans then declared war in 218 BC known as the 2nd Punic War. Rather than wait passively in the defence, Hannibal decided to take the fight directly to Rome. In September 219 BC, he set out with an army of 50,000 men and 40 elephants to corss the Alps – a totally unanticipated act.
