h was named after "one of its biggest Maecenas", King Matthias(Lukacs, 49). "The church was reconstructed in characteristic neo-Gothic style with its frescos telling the most important events in Hungarian history (Lukacs, 49)." Almost every house on Castle Hill has cellars running several stories deep into the hill. "During the middle ages, these cellars were connected into a corridor system several kilometers long (Brief)." The Cave system was used in times of war to speedily relocate troops to needed areas.
Two other points of interest are the Mary Magdalene Tower and Fisherman's Bastion. "Only the tower of the church of the former Buda garrison, destroyed in World War II, stands (Brief)." The 13th century church's history is displayed in a garden of ruins behind the tower. The Fisherman's Bastion was completed in 1905 on the site of a former fish market close to Trinity Square. "Though it never served a defensive purpose, it offers an excellent view of the other bank of the Danube River (Lukacs, 51)."
