Have you ever hear about those people that something bad happens to them or they just have a horrible childhood and never recover to become " normal " again. Well, Eleanor Roosevelt had a horrible childhood, but she didn't let that affect the amazing person she became. Her mother hated her, and her father, the only person she felt cared about her, died. She was then sentenced to live with her grandmother, who sent her off to boarding school in England. Now if that isn't a bad way to start life, I don't know what is. Don't worry though because things soon took a turn for the best at boarding school.
Anna Eleanor was born on October 11, 1884, in New York City. Her parents were Elliot Roosevelt and Anna Ludlow Hall Roosevelt. Theodore Roosevelt, the former President of the United States of America, was her godfather. She also had two younger brothers. Eleanor went by the name Eleanor instead of Anna (which was only used in legal matters). Eleanor found out too early in life that life isn't always fair and not every thing was going to go her way, or in her case nothing was going to go her way. Her mother, Anna, was a beautiful woman and because Eleanor wasn'tbeautiful, her mom hated her. Anna described Eleanor as " Such a funny child, so old fashioned. " Eleanor described Anna as " One of the most beautiful women I have ever seen." Like most people, Eleanor had her own unique style. However, Anna didn't like it and nicknamed her "Granny " because Eleanor looked too " Old fashioned. " Eleanor once remarked "I never smiled. " Can you blame her?
