For example, the life of a tailor would be reinvented when the sewing machine was introduced, and could stitch faster and better than any human's hands. As an American tailor testified in 1883 to a Senate committee, this invention did not benefit the worker. In hope of earning more and providing for their family, the tailors were forced to buy sewing machines with what little money they had. Though its profit was only for the bosses, they were able to get their finished work much faster and would most certainly be of higher quality. The tailors in return were not rewarded with higher wages, instead were left with the loss of the cost of the machine.
