Paul sees himself and Keller as two frustrated loners. They both have their separate issues and separate ways, however when it comes down to the fine details, they both have of the same issues problems intertwined into the same category, which is: frustration and loneliness.
             The evidence which supports this topic, is things like; there attitudes towards each other, the frustration of Paul not playing to his full potential, Keller with his personal problems (alcoholism), Paul's lack of social acceptance when he moves to Darwin and the way in which Keller creates his own small world of isolation (social isolation)
             Keller is a man that lives with no family and no friends, so he doesn't receive the love he once had, yet he sees the love that Paul receives in his family and is reminded of what it was like to have a loving family. The natural thing for him to feel is jealousy since he sees something that he can't have and misses so much. On the other hand Paul wants something that Keller has, the talent and knowledge to play the piano the way that Keller dose but doesn't use.
             One Reason why Keller is such a frustrated loner is because of the pride that he once had that led him to the consequence for being alone. For the reason that he thought his talent in playing piano could caper (take care) for the safety of his family. Nonetheless his arrogance and ignorance proved incorrect, resulting in the death of his own family. In addition his drinking problem was issue that he used to solve the problems in his life. Except the drinking problem affected the outcome of his social life, leading him once again to outcome of being a loner. The sympathy that he desire's to receive just ends up with rumours and disrespect leaving him with a name that leaves him ultimately with no friends.
             Another issue of Keller's was his personality and attitude. He was a harsh man that didn't care what other people thought
