Growing up is very important aspect of a child's life. During that period of time, the child learns how to adapted to our way of life and he also learns new things. In the novel Bless Me Ultima by, Rudolfo Anaya. In the beginning of the story, a boy named Antonio Marez and he is also known as "Tony" as well. Antonio is a young boy, his about six years of age when Ultima comes to live with his whole family. Ultima is a well-aged woman that comes to live with them because she lives by her self. Antonio mother tells her to stay with them because Ultima had helped her conceive all her children and now she is returning her gratitude for helping her. Ultima is a curandera, which is kind of like a doctor, but most people think that she is a witch and they call her a "burja" throughout the entire story. Antonio and Ultima learn from one another and Ultima shows her way of being a curandera to Antonio. Together they go through many obstacles and help other people in their struggle to persevere and go on with life.
             Antonio's father his name is Gabriel Marez; he had always had a dream of moving to California with his three sons, who are Leon, Andrew and Eugene. All his three sons were at war during the time that Ultima came to live with them. Gabriel had that dream for so long until the war took his three sons away. His dream was still alive until there return. Gabriel had a good friend and I one night he came to his house all mad and sad, because a guy killed his brother who was the sheriff of the town. The man that killed his brother was named Lupito. Now Gabriel and his friend went to look for him and kill him. Antonio heard this and he was curious and he followed them. Ultima had an owl, which was kind of like her soul and spirit. He followed her everywhere and he also start to follow Antonio too. Lupito was under a tree next to a river hiding out.
