social responsibility

According to a textbook called Business World, social responsibility is defined as "the recognition that business activities have an impact on society and the consideration of that impact in business decision making." Having social responsibility, companies help to balance their communities and environment. All companies need to be socially responsible for their employees, customers, and government.
Each company has strong soical responsibility for their employees. Companies need to provide pleasant working environment for each employee. For example, companies need to specify clear guidelines for employees' working hours so that no one has illegal working hours. In order to improve the working regulation, the companies encourage having labor unions. Labor unions helps employees to negotiate their wages and working conditions with employers. Therefore, the labor union prevents from having completely differnt ideas between employer and employees and keeps unity in their companies.
Social responsibility to consumers is necessary to protect the rights of consumers. Companies have responsbibillity for product safety, product information, product choices through competition, in the resolution of complains about products and business practices. Consumers eventually find that wheter or not a company is socially responsible. Body Shop is a good case of this example. As a socially responsible company, Body Shop started selling natural ingredients without harming to the consumers and environment. Eventually, more and more consumers buy their products, and their business escalated. If the customers find out that a company does not provide social responsbility, those customers stop buying products, and eventually, the company will lose profit. It is necessary for companies to consider their operations in a long run and should solve problems such as selling defect items and selling iwth unfair price.
