One group of people that do not receive the credit they deserve is the volunteer emergency personnel. Most of the time these people are affiliated with the various departments for example fire and ambulance departments. I can tell you from personal experience that ambulance crews do not get the credit that they deserve first hand. This is because I used to belong to an ambulance squad. When it comes time to rescue or treat someone who has been hurt, most people think it is our job. The one thing they forget is that most of us are volunteer personnel. We put our own lives on the line to save someone else's. A good example of this is New York City Fire Department. They lost a lot of lives simply trying to save others.
Something that is not fair is that the smaller fire and ambulance companies do the same thing but on a much smaller capacity. These companies don not even get enough money to be able to properly equip their personnel. Without proper funding these companies will not be able to continue to function to there full capacity. To me this is proof that they do not get the credit they deserve. If these companies right here where I live do not receive proper funding then what do smaller companies get, less credit for saving someone's life. This to me is a blatant show of a lot less credit than deserved. Most of these companies are made to fend for themselves and a lot show the lack of credit. By credit I am not saying just money, but where is the government tax incentives, and grants for these companies. Most of these companies have equipment that is severly outdated and falling apart. Any type of grants and funding that the government could give them would be put to a good use. Some of these companies even have the issue of no personnel that is trained. The funding could also be given to provide more and better training to these personnel.
