"Philosophy asks the simple question. What is it all about?"-Alfred North Whitehead. The Greek meaning of philosophy is the love of wisdom. Epistemology includes three basic beliefs: empiricism, rationalism, and Kant's synthesis. These three concepts bring together ideas to explain Epistemology. The first belief is empiricism.
             Empiricism explains that knowledge only comes through experience. Thomas Hobbs, John Locke, and David Hume were famous empiricist. Their basic belief stated that all knowledge comes through experience and the A-Posteriori theory. This theory translates to post experiences. These men felt that most people learn and gain knowledge, as they grow. There are different levels to each concept these men conceived. One concept explains why some people love things, while others just like or enjoy them. Another one relates to how reality is just a matter in motion and how people react makes their own realities. People also gain knowledge by comparing and contrasting old experiences with new ones. Other philosophers believe that people learn things before experiences.
             Rationalism is the epistemological belief that knowledge of the world can be reached by "a prior" means. Rene Descartes is the most famous rationalist who came up with the theory of "a prior". "A prior" basically translates into knowledge known prior to experience. Descartes believed that the only thing he knew for certain was that he was able to think, "I think, therefore I am". Immanuel Kant brings both of these beliefs, a prior and a posteriori together.
             Immanuel Kant says that only knowledge based on experience may be known. Other things will never be desired or confirmed because no one has experienced them.
