             An analysis of the setting and character use in Marge Piercy's short poem "Wellfleet Sabbath"
             In Marge Piercy's short poem, "Wellfleet Sabbath" it often conveys deep custom mind-sets. She wants the reader to be able to understand the lyrics that she expresses in her point of view; in which she is the narrator. She uses different objects of nature to capture the reader's attention. Her passionate voice has been embraced by diverse groups of readers for its political fire, feminist determination, spiritual questioning, and, not in the least, for the sheer pleasure of its music. Her "poems of praise" are pure inspired affirmations of the simple experiences we tend to gloss over in the midst of the "important" business of our days: sun slowly shuts, loosing the moon, and the wind slides over the waves.              In the short poem "Wellfleet Sabbath" Piercy often characterized her words through a meditative, contemplative state. The poem is set on a piney beach at the beginning of Sabbath, in presence of the Jewish rituals. "Here on the piney sandpit, the Shekinah."(line 17) Piercy expresses nature in contrast to the belief of God. "The hawk eye of the sun slowly shuts" (line 1), reveals the understatement of the sun going down just as the eyes of the hawk closes. The night attempts to come to a peaceful end. In addition, she also meditates the moon misshaping in size, as if it disappears through the night. "Loosing the moon floating up slow distorted vast." (lines 6-7) Not only does she reveal her imagery in a contemplative state; Piercy also expresses her lyrics through a reverence passion.
