The population for the country was growing and spreading out to the west and to unknown areas of the U.S. Thoreau did not like the changes that the government was making. The U.S. government went from noble and prosper to merciless and disrepute to the people and to the neighboring countries. Then, as the country led into problems with Mexico and taxes were discovered to charge more types of property, Thoreau began to have second thoughts over the country's government and how society was turning against each other.
             Thoreau noticed a lot more than the people he lived with, that the world and the people he lived with had change with the quick change of government. He began to dislike the way people were thinking and how they controlled the issues with small injustices.
