Burkhart (2002) argues, "It is time to stop using the term 'alternative fuel'. The word 'alternative' is often synonymous with experimental and unproven, but 'alternative fuels' and 'alternative fuel vehicles' are no longer alternative--they are part of the mainstream" (p. 52)
            
             It is no longer a rare phenomenon to see a hybrid vehicle at local supermarkets or on local highways.
