First world nations, such as the United States are very fortunate to have the resources that they do. These industrialized nations have many necessities that other nations can only dream of, and that is including sadly enough running water and something as simple as a healthy supply of bread for all of their citizens. Third world countries have many negatives running against them and it doesn't simply stop at acts of nature that cause famine which is an underlining cause. The video Roots of Hunger illustrates this point that "Hunger is not created by acts of nature alone" and further many of today's problems felt by third world countries are/have been caused by past colonization errors, a lack of jobs and/or industry, lack of positive aid, and faulty politics towards and in these nations. The stems of famine and hunger have been planted for so long; many third world people simply are born into a situation in which they have no control for their or their families' advancement into at least a decent, workable, humane living situation and that is just by having bare minimums to survive.
Latin American and African nations (before they became nations) before European colonization were highly successful civilizations (Blaut 1). Their technological advances and living conditions were very admirable. However, the European standpoint has, and still is to a point that the best things to ever happen to the world came out of Europe (Blaut 3). This belief was closely related to how the free world slowly was colonized by Europe. Much of what colonies did before and after Europeans landed was discarded regardless of how great and the diffusion of European ideas was necessary for the natives to truly know greatness and advance and modernize in the European/right way (Blaut 4-5).
