             "He said unto him, which Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not
             commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness..." –
             Both the Old Testament and the New Testament explicitly mentioned that adultery is a sin. The rule seems simple enough. One should not engage in any sexual activity with anyone other than one's spouse. The ninth commandment, "Thou shalt not covet your neighbor's wife," (Exodus 20:17) could be said to be an extension or a completion of the sixth commandment-not only should one not have any sexual relations with another, but one should not covet or desire, or even contemplate on having sexual relations with someone else.
             Many issues have been raised regarding adultery. Society has long associated the act of adultery with men, as they have more difficulty in trying to control their sexual urges. Feminists complain of the pervasive double standard of morality in our society-that adultery, as a sin is a more serious violation when committed by women than when done by men. The Bible as well as many contemporary theologians has their own opinions of the subject, and this section will discuss in depth the biblical as well as the contemporary Christian outlook on adultery.
