The Never Ending Story between Good and Evil
             The battle between good and evil has been around longer our human society and has grown to be the ultimate choice in what makes a person a success or a failure. Although many side with the "correct" and most accepted side of "Good", without "Evil", there would be no use of heroes and driving figures that guide our society. The idea of evil, or being "bad", has been made to accept all the ideals that one considers to be morally wrong in our society. But, without the ideals of being bad, then no one would be able to tell what is right and what is wrong.
             In the case of the character Mersault from Pinchon's novel, The Stranger, Mersault is a man without compassion and without any worries. This life, taken to the extreme as Mersault did, lead him to not be able to justify what difference it made between being morally right and wrong and thus leads him to live a life where nothing really matters to him except for physical pleasures. Without this postponement of his will to do as he pleases in order to receive the physical pleasures of life, Mersault was able to go as he pleased without worrying about what the future might hold and how he would be "punished" later on. Without ever having to worry about any drawbacks or responsibilities, Mersault was able to live his life the way he wanted.
             Another literary character that changes that has ideals of evil but is not depicted as such, although he fits the characterizations completely, is that of Hamlet. Although the protagonist in the Shakespearean play, Hamlet is deceitful, vile, and cares nothing for those around him yet is considered to be on the side of justice for the one fact that he is trying to avenge his father. Hamlet is the perfect embodiment of the word "bad". Uncaring, odious, and full of anger, Hamlet is the epiphany of evil through his actions. The only reason why...
