Human diversity is the key issue in pages 22-26. Understanding human diversity is essential, especially for today's students. Paragraph one on page 22 states that urgency for understanding human diversity is all around you. The major cities are home to the many people from diverse backgrounds, with diverse values and good, and living side by side. A new appreciation of human diversity is taking shape. Psychologists are beginning to question assumptions that are based on gender, race, and culture. (page 23, psychology book).
             Gender is the first subheading under human diversity. Gender has stereotypes. For example, women talk to much men are strong and silent. Yet some times this may have been proven true, it does not mean that it is always, therefore considered a stereotype, because everyone starts to see things that way. Generally speaking the books states that our culture holds that men are dominant, strong and aggressive, where as women are accommodating, emotional, and affectionate. Also under the gender subheading it talks about feminist psychology, and how it has grown in recent decades, the number of women who have received PhD's in psychology. With the number of increases in women studying psychology, so have the concerns about traditional psychological theories. The last subheading under gender is Sexual orientation. The society sees that women are with men, not women and women and men and men. The research on why people are sexually attracted to the same sex has only begun.
             Race and ethnicity are among the two things that a person notices first when talking to someone. Race is a biological term used to refer to a subpopulation whose members have reproduced exclusively among themselves and therefore are genetically similar and distinct from other members of the same species. Many people look over the fact that the human species is divided into a number of distinct races.
