In the text 'Phone Call' it is intended that it is to be interpreted in a certain way, although this may not seem to be the intent of the character it is led to believe there is a "bad guy" and a victim.
             During the 1960's when the text is set, America was finding itself split within itself, there were the youth and the older generation. The youth of America had found themselves a voice seeing the completion of the Second World War and were enjoying this independence.
             Meanwhile the older generation of America was finding it hard to adjust to these changes, not having as much control of their children they became aggitated and annoyed.
             The text begins with a young man being in his late teens, on the side of the road after his truck had broken down.
             Not knowing how to fix it or even what was wrong with it, he decided he would need to make a call to his boss to inform him of what had happened and why it was not his fault.
             "..but this was one time when he couldn't blame me. It wasn't my fault. It was him himself that told me to take the truck."
             This statement proves the immaturity of the young man, not accepting responsibility for his actions and looking for someone else to blame. The young man walks down the road and comes to a house, where on the mail box the name Timothy is written, he walks up to the door and knocks.
             A woman answers the door and with the confidence of the young man he calls her by the name of Mrs Timothy as introducing himself. Immediately, she is shocked by this, a stranger approaching her door calling her by name was a little too much for a middle-aged woman at home by herself in the late afternoon.
             He explains his story of his truck breaking down and asks if he may use her phone.
             Waryily she lets him, shows him the phone whilst looking out the window.
             "I thought you said you had a truck, I don't see any truck out there."
