Toys for Tots

             As directed I will discuss the non- profit organization of Toys for Tots. This upcoming year will prove to be most difficult for the organization of Central Iowa. Toys for Tots normal works with a 150 man force but will be reduce to about 6 Marines due to deployment of the Marine Infantry Company at Ft Des Moines. In this paper I will discuss the problems and solutions I have discovered by analyzing the Toys for Tots program operations of the past three years. I will then compare the past years operation with the current year and focus of changes that will have to be made in order to accomplish the mission of filling every toy request to needed families. This will include changes to daily operation and financial changes. In short the whole system will be modified to compensate for the loss of the Marines.
             In December 1947, with a hand crafted Raggedy Ann doll the wife of Marine Reserve Major Bill Hendricks made this doll and asked her husband to deliver to an organization that would present it to a needy child on Christmas Day. Unfortunately, Major Bill Hendricks could find no agency to provide such a service. To help fill that void, Major Hendricks and members of his Los Angeles Marine unit, collected and distributed 5,000 Toys to needy children of Los Angles during Christmas 1947. The following year the Marine Corps Reserve adopted the program and began collecting Toys in nearly 200 community's nation wide. The Marine Corps Toy for Tots program collection and distribution sites have become an important and familiar element of the Christmas holiday landscape. To many people Christmas is not complete without Marines, in dress blues, collecting and distributing Toys to the less fortunate children of their communities.
             Last year alone Toys for Tots nationwide provided 6.5 million children with toys, distributing over 15 million toys.
