Plato's The Republic is a text written hundreds of years ago with ideas that can be threaded through today in some way. Plato basically portrays a society that is just and lawful. Plato mixes philosophy and politics and comes up with a set of rules and ideals that he feels would create the perfect society, utopia. Plato uses literacy techniques in his text to help the reader understand more he plays on the hypothetical and reports to the reader the ideals of a utopian society. In Plato's time, it was not a time of possibilities and many options it was not just society and by Plato writing such a text as this, it shows differing perspectives of some people at that time. Although this text does not seem imaginative because all of his ideas are so structured to make a perfects society with no errors, for his day it would be very imaginative for a person to even question the society they lived in, and for Plato to try and improve this society was big because this was going against the authorities in the town saying that their society is not perfect.
             Plato's purpose for writing this text was to show justice. He wanted to show people what an ideal society could be if they basically rule out passion and enforce reason, there must be a reason for everything. Plato wanted to show people that there could be a society where no one is better than another, everyone had their specific job and place in society and there would be no room for conflict. This text was also written for people to challenge their own society with the ideals of Plato's, to help people understand more about their paradigm and show them the "light". Plato simply could have written this play to document his thoughts and peoples' thoughts at his time, to show future generations the ideas he had so they can reflect on their societies and paradigm.
