This featured article which was published in Newsweek on August 31, 2004 talks about ancient artifacts from biblical times. Archaeologists from around the world including the US come to the Middle East to venture through the large uninhabited dessert area. After reading this article I learned that these artifacts, when found, need to be treated with delicacy so you don't mistakenly destroy its past. The argument in this article talks about how looters which roam the area where these artifacts are located are stealing it and selling it for profits. Some of these artifacts are said to be thousands of dollars. This article is really all facts, but if I had to give an opinion on it I would say that there really is no way to stop these looters because, these artifacts are spread throughout wide areas and trying to set up a way to stop the looters would cost a lot of money and would not be worth it. If I were the US and I had to send down archaeologists I would send many, and to different parts of the Middle East to see what they can come up with. I think that these artifacts are very important because some of them can be used to open up museums and we can learn more about the history of Jewish people and also Jesus. A workhorse vessel where Jesus himself went on a boat was found at the bottom of the biblical lake in 1986. In Israel in a city by the name of Tel-Aviv there are kibbutz's in which ancient Israeli artifacts are found and can be very important to learning the history of how the Jewish Religion was established. I think that this article was well written and gave you details about which artifacts came from where and how much they are worth.
