             After World War II, America focused on the blockage and containment of communist activity around the world. The United States developed a policy of defending democracy through the use of convential military units and nuclear weapons. The U.S. soon realized, however, that these troops were unsuitable to fight the poorly armed yet still determined "grassroots revolutions" (Stanton xi) that were being fought in the Third World. A need was formed for a specialist group that was able to counter the Guerrilla troops employed by the Communists.
             On June 20, 1952, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, a group of volunteers was formed into the 10th Special Forces Group. The individuals of this group were assembeled based on their abilty to master critical military and problem solving skills. Regardless of his background, each Special Forces volunteer underwent a rigorous physical conditioning exam. He was then tested to determine his best, perhaps exclusive skill.
