Niccolo Machiavelli seems to be a master at manipulating the human conditions. I have never
read anything quite like what he has written. He writes of things that one might consider wrong, but his
manner of presenting the subject is so well structured that one cannot not help but to consider the idea
There is a moment in Machiavelli's statement in which he says the following: "You must,
therefore, know that there are two means of fighting: one according to the laws, the other with force; the
first way is proper to man, the second to beasts; but because the first in many cases, is not sufficient, it
becomes necessary to have recourse to the second. Therefore, a prince must know not to use wisely the
natures of the beast and the man." The thought of being half man half beast seems uncivilized in our
current society, yet, he words it in a way that you, the reader, buy into it.
Machiavelli speaks of the power of manipulating yourself while he manipulates you, but you love
to read it and find yourself agreeing with it. The following is an example of the previously mentioned: "A
wise ruler, therefore, cannot and should not keep his word when such an observance of faith would be to
his disadvantage and when the reasons which made him promise are removed." Machiavelli's point is
that when one has such a large amount of power, they have to much to risk or too much to lose.
Sometimes you cannot go by your own beliefs to get what is best needed, and in order to be able to have
this proverbial freedoms to simply do what you have decided is the best course of action, you can not
allow you're self to become tied to any verbal bond with a community, press, or organization.
Furthermore, Machiavelli mentions one more bit of advice towards the end of the topic in which
he states: "he should not stray from the good but she could know how to enter evil when necessity
