Often in literature people find the plot, and characters to be much more appealing, and entertaining if they are form the authors imagination. Many feel that reality, and history are simply too boring. However when Esther Forbes sat down to write Johnny Tremain, she felt that the past had in it not only great characters, but a great story as well. Forbes created a boy by the name of Johnny Tremain and placed him in a time in history when the people of colonial America no longer would accept the injustice and tyranny England had cast apon them. It was the eve of the American Revolution where readers all over would watch as this boy was transformed into a man.
             Beginning in the summer of 1773 the story Johnny Tremain is about a young boy growing up in colonial Boston. Here he lived with his matster as s skilled aprentice silversmith. Johnny's parents had both been killed and so his craft became his only love. One day while working on a Sunday (which was forbidden) Johnny slipped and suffered a crippling burn to his hand. Having no where to go Johnny confronts a wealthy merchant who his mother told him he is related to. This however put Johnny into more trouble when he is accused of stealing the cup given to him by his mother to prove his kinsmanship. Johnny's newly found friend Rab came to his aide as he found him a lawyer and arranged for Cilla, a daughter of his old Master, to testify on his behalf. Once free of the charge Johhny finds a job he can do with his crippled hand. Thanks once again to Rab he began delivering newspapers for the Boston Observer. It was here that Johnny became familiar with many of the political men in Boston as well the polotics themslevs. After becoming good on horse back Johnny runs errands and delviers messages for the leaders of the revolutionary forces such as Sam Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock.
