             "Like it or not, is everywhere. It is on buses, billboards, the Internet, TV, newspapers and many other places. It invades our living rooms, our classrooms and almost every aspect of human life."
             Advertising is a necessary market force that is responsible for the success of, and involved in, all forms of media. It is also responsible for some of our most powerful and long-living icons that dominate the American landscape. It is thought to be the foundation and economic lifeblood of mass media and the primary purpose of mass media is to lure audiences to advertisers. The 130 billion dollar advertising industry is a powerful force not only in the United States, but also throughout the world.
             Consumers are both spectators and players in this highly competitive arena, it is imperative that we become as aware as possible of the rules and not be so blinded by the hyped up products being advertised.
             There are many views on advertising. Despite the many opinions that it is manipulative, a waste of money that could go towards other issues, and a bad influence on human beings, it is simply intended to reveal the benefits of products that consumers want. It is vital to many businesses, as some would be unable to survive without a way of making their products known. Although advertising is accused of influencing consumers to buy things they do not need, they have free will whether or not to buy the product. It is up to the consumer to make wise choices and develop shopping skills that are intelligent.
