             Our third plot motif in Noir is that often, the detective (as a typical Noir text is indeed a detective story), or other main character is used as a pawn, used in a larger plot that the client plans. In Se7en, it is the villain John Doe that plans to use the two Detectives to complete his work, what Somerset refers to as Doe's "masterpiece". At the end of the film, it is revealed to the audience that Mills has acted out the sin of wrath by acting on his rage and killing John Doe, something that Doe himself planned to happen in order for him to complete what he has committed these murders for. If we look again at how this applies to Double Indemnity, this theme is evident in that Walter Neff is used by Phyllis Dietrichson, the femme fatale in order for her to reap the rewards of the insurance scam coined together primarily by Neff himself.
             Commonly in Noir, the main protagonist usually becomes enmeshed in conspiracy composed of members from different spheres of society. Se7en is a film rife with the feeling of corruption and sleaze, evident in the fact that the detectives themselves have to use dishonest and corrupt methods to catch their killer, when they bribe an FBI officer into giving them a list of people who have been reading into the seven deadly sins, and may be responsible for the murders.
