Affirmative Action

First I would like to define affirmative action. "Affirmative action" means positive steps taken to increase the representation of women and minorities in areas of employment, education, and business from which they have been historically excluded.
Term was first introduced in 1964 when federal courts could impose on violators of the Act. The Executive Order assigned the job of specifying rules of implementing workers and students to the Secretary of Labor.
Affirmative action was pretty unfamiliar to the public until the autumn of 1972, when the Secretary of Labor's Revised Order No. 4, fully implementing the Executive Order, landed on campus by way of directives from the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare.
Some people are against it because how can discrimination be "fixed" with discrimination and that's what it came down to. It was, and probably still is, easier to get into certain schools or receive certain scholarships and financial aid depending on an individual's race. I can't say that it ever affected me because I don't know. I have met people saying that "if I was of different race I would not have to pay for school as much as I do" and that may be true in some situations but that's not always the case. I am fairly new to this whole system so I did not have many experiences with it. In Poland this issue is not that big because for the most part there is only one race and one religion, which does not mean that its not there at all because woman are a big part in affirmative action. Before today I did not even know what affirmative action is. I think it's important for everyone to have equal rights and privileges but it is hard to accomplish. Both sides, which ever they might be, have their arguments and objections as far as succeeding in solving that problem. I think it is impossible to keep both of them satisfied.
