In the selection taken from "The Praise of Folly," Erasmus speaks through Dame Folly, who is a "goddess" that delights in her foolish followers. This selection is written in personification. I think this selection is very true in today's society; some people put themselves under a lot of stress to become either the first to do something or the best to do it. Others just try to take credit for someone else's work. This, of course, cuts out a lot of stress and hard work, but it can hurt you in the long run because you are taking chances at getting in trouble for plagiarism. Folly claims that the wiser writers are those who put out the work of someone else as their own work, which I think is true. Not that it is the right thing to do, but it is definitely the easiest. In today's society everyone is looking for the fifteen minutes of fame, and when your book is first published and is a success you will be glorified as a celebrity. You will make your money, and get to live a very luxurious life. If you do get caught for plagiarism, you will still have the money to live your life very comfortably. Erasmus also speaks as Folly, identifying herself as she says human life would be intolerable without her. She says that if people were always sensible, then everyone would be miserable in life. She also identifies her parents and some of her attendants: self-love, forgetfulness, flattery, pleasure, and sensuality.
             Folly points out several professions, alluding to several flaws in the professions that make it excel. The main one that stands out is a lawyer, which is also very true in my opinion.
