Ramiro R. Muniz, a attorney and Chicano Civil Rights leader in the 70's, fought for his people and what he stood for. He defended his fellow Chicanos who were constantly being violated from their rights. From 1972 through 1974, Muniz was a Texas gubernatorial candidate for the Raza Unida Party, which was a political party developed and established for Mexicans. He collected 6% of the vote and in the process he made people come aware of his political power. His efforts also made people come aware that a the Mexican voice was becoming extremely powerful politically.
During his powerful political career in 1976, he was falsely accused of drug conspiracy. Ramsey knowing that the government was not pleased with the help he provided for his people left to Mexico. There he was found and brought to the U.S. to be tortured and prosecuted. Ramsey knowing that his Raza Unida Party colleagues were also targeted by U.S. government, pleaded guilty all for the safety of his people. He was convicted twice from the same crime, once in Corpus Christi and the other time in San Antonio. His sentence was longer than normally given. After he served his time he was continuously prosecuted for false drug related accusations by the DEA.
n 1994, Ramsey ( as a Legal Assistant), was caught speaking to Donacio Medina from Durango, Mexico, who was also one of the targets by the DEA. As soon as the DEA learned about Ramsey's connection with Medina the DEA wanted Ramsey instead. Medina in lured by the DEA helped the DEA to trapped Ramsey by asking him to move his car and Ramsey moved and parked his car. As he did that he found himself surrounded by government agents, and searched twice without his consent. The search ended when the DEA opened the trunk and found what they already knew would be there- drugs. Now Ramsey is serving a term of life without parole. He is currently in Leavenworth, Kansas prison
