Education

             Education is a gift that is provided for all our children in the United States. The United States also provides a free education for the mentally retarded children. Education for regular education students and for the mentally retarded students have many similarities, but still have their own unique way of being different.
             First of all, the education that is provided for our students at Harris Middle School in San Antonio are held in the same building the students are segregated together with the regular ed students and the students who have special needs. For example, they share the same restroom, the same water fountain, the same gym, and lastly they share the same cafeteria and are also able to eat lunch together.
             Secondly, the students that have a handicap that are able to function in mathematics are sent to the regular ed classes. For example they are able to understand and multiply with no problems. They are given the same grades as if they were a regular ed students with no handicap. In fact, when it is time to attend Physical Education they all congregate together in the same gym and if capable do the same agenda the is provided for the regular ed students. For instance, even with a handicap you would be amazed on how well they work together and how well they do. They love playing basketball, kickboxing, and running everywhere.
             Lastly, the students are all the same. They have feelings just as much as the regular ed students. They need just as much attention as young children and adults do. For instance, they love to be hugged and praised for everything they do well. Especially when they complete an assignment and color a pretty picture they love it when they get high fives. Truly just by seeing their beautiful smile light up the room and makes it worth wild working with all the wonderful students.
