             Anti-Intellectualism by Social Class
             Why should you be penalized for being intelligent? Nowadays young African Americans face a dilemma for being educated. Students sometimes receive bad grades just to fit in with their peer-group, since of course it is cooler to be uneducated then knowledgeably. There are many factors that give off the wrong impression to young people about anti-intellectualism.
             The media is one of the main reasons for society's bias attitude toward young smart kids. Television shows show ignorance as being popular and more expectable. This in no way is the case, the more education, the more doors will open for a career of lifestyle that one may choose. I am not sure when this perception came into act, but it needs to be concluded. I think young people including myself should do more to evolve our selves instead of worrying about what others think. Rap is given the bad rap for encouraging stupidity. I do not see how this is true, many rappers are very well educated. It is like if you are a singer or a poet than you are intellectual.
             Hence, the school a person attends is a trait determining intelligence. This is true in a sense, but not in all cases. Everyone can not afford to attend an ivy-league institution even if they are accepted. For that reason, a student at Virginia State University can be just as smart as a student at Drexel University in Philadelphia. People live with different circumstances and sometimes their high school they attend lets them graduate with out completing the mandatory standards. So now we have students who are believed to know a certain level of knowledge, but do not because of direct anti-intellectualism.
             We can not forget about race. Being black and smart is like a double negative. First of all you are black and who wants to hire a smart young African American who can one day create a business of his own? It is okay for whites and Asians to be educated, but if African
