Euthanasia

             Just imagine yourself in your late 70's laying in a hospital bed. Your body is sore from lying down for weeks on end. You have to go through chemo-therapy 4 days a week and the pain is excruciating. Thousands of people all around the United States are suffering from life threatening illnesses. Many cancer patients and AIDS patients suffer in conditions such as these everyday and some even worse. Life support is an answer to keep your family members living but there are many factors to think about when keeping someone alive with such a horrible disease. I feel euthanasia is very helpful for the patient and the patient's family.
             Euthanasia is a professional method of assisting death to patients who are suffering. Someone provides an individual with the information, guidance, and means to take his or her own life with the intention that they will be used for this purpose. The word itself stems from two Greek words "Eu" meaning well, and "Thanatos" meaning death. There is positive or active Euthanasia, which is divided into two categories, direct and indirect. Direct – positive euthanasia is "deliberately inducing death in order to terminate hopeless suffering or a meaningless existence". However, Indirect –positive euthanasia is "indirectly causing death by use of drugs to relieve pain but which clearly hasten death." There are many types of euthanasia but for medical use it is called "physician assisted suicide." Passive euthanasia, is what many physicians and family prefer. Even if it does mean death, it stops the pain and suffering not only the patient has to go through, but their loved ones as well. Millions of people in the United States alone, have to watch their close friends and family suffer horribly by incurable diseases.
