What exactly is a college laundromat? Contrary to popular belief, a college laundromat is one that specializes in serving actual college students. Through visiting and observing college students in a college laundromat, I was better able to comprehend the fundamentals involved. My observations of the students using the machines and their reactions towards the environment have given me a better understanding of the whole "laundromat scenario."
             Upon entering a college laundromat for the first time, you will be subject to the unfair prices and the actual crowdedness of the laundry room. First to jump out would be the gigantic prices required to wash and dry one's clothes: $1.50 to wash one load for thirty-six minutes, and another $1.50 to dry one load for twenty minutes. Most people I know do two loads a week, one set of colors and one set of whites; this brings the total to $6.00 per week, or $24.00 a month just to keep one's clothes clean! After stressing ridiculous prices, you would then start to realize how crowded and compact the laundromat actually is. Consisting of six washers and six dryers, the small laundromat located in McConnel Dorm has no room for people to move about. An average of four or five people can do their laundry at the same time, which requires those four or five people to be on their feet. One cannot sit down in the laundromat due to the lack of chairs or benches. If one of the people inside the laundromat has a visitor, they must first step out of the small heated cubicle to carry on a conversation. This requires everyone in the laundromat to move out of that person's way! Upon first observation of a college laundromat, you may shriek at the ridiculous prices while also noticing the small compact space that not only contains machines, but also people.
