Inside stories I "The Wish"

             From the title "The Wish" tell me that a person made a wish that change their life. When I read the subtitle, I believed that it is about a boy who made a wish which changed the ordinary carpet into adventurous and dangerous gameboard.
             Phase Two: Considering the Question and Background Information
             After previewing the question and information about the author, I predict that the imaginative preschooler may vanish into the gameboard and never come out as stated in the student notes "Roald Dahl (1916- ) is best known for unusual stories with surprise endings."
             This story is about a preschooler who accidentally turns an ordinary carpet into gameboard for adventure by plucking off the scab on his knee and flipping on to the carpet. He looked from the stair at the gameboard he created. He then probed the gameboard to see if there where enough yellow to get through the gameboard. He imagines the yellow as the only area he can walk on, the red as the hot coal which will turn him into ashes if he touches any of them, and black areas as poison snakes such as adders, and cobras. In addition, he imagined that if he passed through the gameboard he will receive a puppy for his birthday tomorrow. He courageously venture into the gameboard and faces his fears. He walked stressfully on the yellow lines, and stopped in the middle to rest. After a while he kept on going fist clenched so hard that it turned white. He went left as soon as he got to a two way yellow line. Snakes surrounded him as he approached the "front door". As a result, he lost confidence and fell down to the pit filled with snakes. Meanwhile, the preschooler's mother looked for her son. (The author shifted the point of view near the end.)
