Printed questionnaires and Telephone survey - The Optical Mark Recognition would be recommended for both. Then an individual hand-draws a symbol such as a circle or a rectangle, the OMR device first scans the answer key sheet to record correct answers based on patterns of light. Then it scans the remaining documents and matches their patterns of light against the answer key sheet.
Bank checks – The use of the MICR Reader would be recommended. The MICR (magnetic almost exclusively banks use ink character recognition. When a check is processed, it uses an MICR inscriber to print the amount of the check in MICR characters in the lower right corner. The check is then sorted or routed to the customer's bank. The MICR reader reads the check information and transmits this information to a computer for processing.
Retail tags – Bar coding would be recommended since it is an optical reader that uses laser beams to read the bar code. For the retail industry, they use Universal Product Code (UPC) as their bar code.
Long documents – Using a large Optical Character Recognition machine (OCR) would be the best method for inputting a long document into a computer. A large OCR device can read thousand of documents per minute by reading printed characters in an OCR font called OCR-A.
· Convenience and quality of output are important. Explain what method of output would be best for each of the following situations and explain why:

Color photograph – A photo printer was would be recommended to produce photo-lab-quality pictures. Many photo printers have a built in card slot so the printer can print digital photographs directly from a media card.
