An Important Realization

When my mother first started buying organic products, I could not come to an understanding with her new obsession. It seemed silly to go out of the way, spending extra time and a lot more money, to get some product merely because it had an organic label. However, as I stood in the Montana wilderness last year, looking at a crystal clear lake which reflected the snow covered mountains of the background, a thought jumped through my mind. The beauty and magnificence of nature mesmerized me, and I slowly connected the splendor that stood before me with my mother's fascination for organic products.
Now, the advantages of organic agriculture are clearly boundless. It was at that moment that I realized that it would be a tragedy if future generations would not be able to see the same wonderful sites that I had the privilege of enjoying. However, the extended use of non-organic agriculture could very possibly bring about this catastrophic effect; non-organic agriculture uses over a million gallons of pesticides everyday causing harm to the air, polluting our water, and hurting our environment. Despite the "bigger" and "better" appearance of genetically altered foods, an organic diet is much healthier. In addition, organic foods just taste better! The chemicals used to produce non-organic fruits and vegetables often cause these foods to lack the juicy tastes and pleasures of organic foods. Organic agriculture is important to me and my family because it insures that we are eating foods that are nutritious, natural, and delicious. It turns out that my mom was right all along!
