             Ninety-one percent (91%) of law firms with more than twenty (20) lawyers and forty-four percent (44%) of law firms with twenty (20) or fewer lawyers are already taking advantage of the function of e-mail through the Internet to communicate with clients. According to a study released by GoAhead Productions, the publisher of the Internet Lawyer newsletter, 500,000 lawyers (approximately 52%) are now using computers to access the Internet for the function and use of e-mail. This increased use of information technology will improve an attorney's ability to communicate and communication is what builds the relationship between a business and its customers. Relationships between attorneys and clients in the future will be built around this new capacity to communicate instantly and globally. This quicker more efficient method of communicating will change all the models for the ways attorneys and clients relate to one another. The increased use of e-mail will change the way business is generated through those relationships .
             The legal field has discovered that e-mail is changing the way the profession does business and attorneys are recognizing the potential of information technology to produce better, more accurate work. E-mail is making an attorney's job easier, more efficient, more flexible, and more orderly. Unfortunately, as attorneys discover the many uses of Internet e-mail in the legal field and the many advantages to this new information technology, they have also discovered a distinct disadvantage. The legal field now needs to decide if the advantages will overcome the disadvantage.
