Racism has been around for a long time. The first well-known acts of racism are in America. America is known as the melting pot of the world. All types of people come to America, Asians, various European groups, so there is bound to be some tension. It is human nature to want to be dominant and better than everyone else is, and to feel competitive to others. The feelings between blacks and whites are the most well noted because of slavery, but blacks are not the only victims to the "white man's" dominant emotions.
Native Americans, Asians, those of Middle Eastern descent and Latinos are all subjugated to the stereotypical American culture. Racial profiling, unlawful wages, discrimination, segregation all children of the white man's pride. The need, the urge to be the biggest and best when all are really equal makes this "free America" nothing more that a glorious idea that is thought to be achieved by some, but when you stop the look at this country and the world. It is closer to being reality than 100 or so years ago, but truly has not yet been reached.
The first settlers were religious based. Driven out of the homelands because of their beliefs, the settled in the north. Then came the people of the south. The people of the south came to the new land with hopes of getting rich, and that's what they did. Of course though, they had to find away to make more money faster. Hiring new comers to work in the fields was costing to much according to the southern farmers. They turned to slavery. The Native Americans were the first targets of the settlers. Since it was the homeland of these people, they knew how to escape and thus could hide and be free. The farmers then thought to bring over Africans. They did not know that land, and since having little contact with whites, they thought they would be able to express their so posed supremacy over the blacks with ease.
