             Datalink layer provide service to the network, which include hop-to-hop delivery, packetizing, addressing, error control, flow control and medium access. As shown below:
             In order for a packet to reach its destination, it must be delivered by one hop from a computer to another hop to second computer. The hop to hop delivery is monitor and control by the two data link. The packet must travel through LAN connection or WAN connection to reach it destination (Forouzan: 102).
             Data go through LAN and WAN using hop to hop delivery. The data is transform into packet, it can small packet or large packet. Packet that is delivered from the IP layer must be encapsulated in a packet. Each packet has different names and contains a header and trailer. The header contains the data and trailer function as error detection (during transmission) (Forouzan: 102).
             Address function as an address for the hop to hop delivery. Every packet being send or receive contains a physical address and logical address. In the Data link layer it only concern with physical address or MAC addresses that both contain the source and destination addresses. The MAC address is stored in the NIC Network Interface and every NIC is unique world-wide. In LAN address it used: 6 bytes = 48 bits long and WAN address is longer (Forouzan: 102).
