audiences by gently mocking them and their context, by showing the audience ludicrous aspects of their culture. Hence, the film is set in Los Angeles as a microcosm of the audience's society and an example of one of the possible, absurd scenarios of the audience's world. Furthermore, since the Heckerling's intention is to sell the film to the largest audience possible, the best way to 'sell' the film would be to provide stimulus that the target audience could relate to. This clearly demonstrates how contexts have transformed this text.
Perhaps the most important change that has been brought upon by the changing contexts is the different media used between the two texts. Each composer used a different medium that would be more appropriate for the audiences for whom each composer had intended the work for. On the one hand, Austen wrote Emma to be read widely amongst the literate, upper-class, to teach them the importance of a good perception and rational thinking, and so wrote in the form of a didactic novel. Yet on the other hand, Heckerling used the medium of film because she was aiming to reach a wide audience, and in the context of the late 20th century, the only media which could do so effectively, was film. Hence, it is clear that the contexts wrought an important change in media between the two texts.
By extension, the context caused a change in the stylistic techniques of both texts because each used different media. On the one hand, Emma is a novel and therefore used stylistic techniques such as shifting narrative viewpoint (subjective third person), irony, dialogue and structure. On the other hand, Clueless is uses film techniques such as graphics, music, camera shots, costume, visual motifs and lighting. Hence, to better suit the changing contexts, there has been an important change in the stylistic devices used in both texts because each text uses a different media.
