             The Power of Voice: Great Black Voices
             Black people throughout all of time have at established their voice as power. Modern examples like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, Civil Rights Leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X; before them great abolitionists like Fredrick Douglas, and others that would cry out for an end to slavery. However the single most powerful voice ever was that of Jesus, who was black, influenced these great black people.
             Two very important African Americans black leaders that demonstrate their voice as power today are Rev. Al Sharpton and Rev. Jesse Jackson. Both are activists for equality and strive to overcome prejudice and inequality today in our society. Al Sharpton born in Brooklyn began preaching at age 4 and was licensed and ordained by the age of 9; he found his voice very early in life. He led the National Youth Movement for 17 years (The History Makers). Al Sharpton continues to fight injustice wherever he goes following in the footsteps of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Rev. Jesse Jackson. He is also currently running for the president of the United States.
             Jesse Jackson was born out of wedlock to a high school mother; these humble beginnings would only be a part of what he is today: the most powerful voice of the African American nationwide and throughout the world. In 1963 he led students in a protest against segregated black restaurants (American Hero). After graduating from A & T he went to the Chicago Theological Seminary, then six months before graduation he moved to Selma, Alabama to take part in the arising Civil Rights Movement. Jesse worked with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. directly and helped with the movement however he could. However he and Dr. King did not get along well and at one point Dr. King asked him to leave, Jesse begged to stay and was allowed.
