             "Education is indoctrination." is a phrase coined by Professor Grant Swain in David Williamson's play 'Dead White Males'. This simple phrase empowers the educator and oppresses the student. It is this process of empowerment and oppression that causes conflict and debate within the play's society. The play 'Dead White Males' is a satirical portrayal of the power struggles between social classes and the effect power has on human behaviour. It is also an analysis of human nature versus the culture impressed upon us from an early age. It is an impersonation of the overly analytical minds of literary theorists and critics. Within the confines of the author's imagination the play manages to touch on many issues and conflicts afflicting today's society. Issues such as the continuing debate between the dominant ideology and the marginalised one. The feminist 'fight' for equality, the exploitation of minors and the influence our 'idols' have on us.
             'Dead White Males' which was written by David Williamson in 1995. It was in this time that feminism was rampant and literary intellect was valued and being superior to manual trade. It follows the development of the heroine; Angela; a university student taking a Literary Theory course. It shows her initial naivety and her final understanding and acceptance of the perspectives of those around her. This revelation occurs when she becomes subject to the charms of the older and much more experienced professor for whom she begins to regard with affection.
