The Chinese Culture

are considered by foreigners as religious people; however, almost 42% of Chinese do not practice any religion. The dominant religious practices are Buddhism and Atheism. Buddhism to many in China is a way of life. It teaches the believers to lead a moral life, to be mindful and aware of action and thoughts, and to develop wisdom and understanding. Only 8% of the Chinese culture practices Buddhism, and yet it is considered by Chinese as a dominant religion. The other dominant religious practice, Atheism, can be split into two groups, weak Atheism and strong Atheism. Weak Atheism is the denial of the belief of god. While strong Atheists believe that gods cannot exist. Atheism is not developed by ignorance, but by skeptical people. Like other cultures, the Chinese have many superstitions. Some superstitions I have from my own personal experiences are very interesting. For example, when leaving rice in a bowl, each rice grain you leave will shorten your life by that many years. Another one would be, when shaking your legs; you are supposedly "shaking your money away".
             The Chinese written language is of an old style that uses a single distinctive symbol or character for each syllable. You need to know about 3000 to 4000 characters to read a newspaper.
