"Singin in the Rain", starring Gene Kelly,
Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds. The opening sequence started with the scene that was used to advertise the movie where Gene, Donald and Debbie were singing the song "Singin in the Rain", in the rain dressed in raincoats. I think the film began this way because that was a nice start to the movie that reminded the audience of the wonderful scenes in the advertisement. The advertisement, which was very good, gave the audience a good preview of the movie. I think that seeing that scene again in the beginning of the movie gave the audience the feeling that the movie was going to be really good.
The first few shots of the film set the stage for the rest of the movie where it talks about the beginning of the careers of the Don and Cosmo and then continues up to the present. Also how the relationship of Don and Lina began and continued up to the present. The theme was a musical love story. The opening sequence started out with good music that continued throughout the movie.
For this film to have been made in 1952, I found this movie to be very satisfying and very entertaining. It definitely made an impact that will be lasting. I noticed several shots and angles that are being used today. I will, and have recommended this film to my roommates. Two of them have already seen it and the other two watched it last night. They both thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a great movie.
The five to ten minute stretch that I watched was at the beginning of the movie where all the celebrities were walking the red carpet to see the premiere of the show. I counted over 20 editing cuts between the wide-angle shot of the theater up to the point where Don begins his trip down memory lane. I feel the cutting was conspicuous, very fast and jarring. I think it had to be done that way for the audience to feel the high energy that everyone in the film was trying to show. I...
