After reading a "Soldiers Home" I was left pondering on all the psychological effects that were left with Kreb, and are common among many veterans who return home from war. After going through War it is shown that it takes time to experience and understand the symptoms of all the physical and psychological battle wounds and scars that they witness and experience first hand. All of this makes really makes a person think, appreciate, and realize how fortunate we are on not happening to experience this. Like Kreb, I am enrolled in school as a freshman here and FSU and could be facing that fact that I could be getting shipped over seas and helping fight for the war in Iraq. This is why I hope everyone goes out and voices their opinion November 2 and votes.
After World War 1 posttraumatic stress disorder was a common problem among soldiers who returned home from serving their country. People who experience this battle depression, anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks, flash backs, and sleeping disorders. I felt like Kreb was a victim of this. He experienced many effects of this disease. His routine and way of functioning in society were altered. No longer was Kreg comfortable with himself.
When Kreg first came back to Oklahoma he felt like his involvement in WW1 wasn't appreciated. He had missed out all the greetings and positive support from the community for what he did in helping fight for his country. I think he felt like he wasn't accounted for, and was being taken for granted. He felt like no one cared nor wanted to hear what he had to say from his experiences and the fact that he felt like he needed to talk about it to help him feel comfortable, but no one was there to comfort him or understand what he was saying.
